About the artwork

The Nimrod Fortress is situated in northern Golan, on a ridge rising some 800 meters above sea level, named after a biblical hero, the hunter Nimrod (Genesis 10:8-9) who, according to local tradition, dwelt on this summit. The fortress overlooks the deep, narrow valley separating Mt. Hermon from the Golan Heights and the road linking the Galilee with Damascus. It lies close to a very special region of the country called Caesarea Philippi, where Jesus often spoke to and spent time with His disciples. In one specific account in the book of Matthew Jesus asks them “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They reply “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” Then Jesus said “But what about you, who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in Heaven.” This very question asked by Jesus presents itself in our lives every day. He asks us “who do you say I am?” and we can respond to this question by the way that we live. We can declare Him the Messiah as Peter did by living a life devoted to God through prayer and relationship with Jesus.
